Alter Ego Album Creative

the birth of the iconic star

Not many know that the inspiration for Lisa’s iconic star came from the tooth gem she wore in the ROCKSTAR video and photo shoot. With trying to keep consistency throughout the album campaign, we found this small detail could work with whatever Lisa and RCA will plan. Without this trendy accessory, her emblem would be something different today.

Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me) was the second to last single before ALTER EGO was released. This was the introduction to the ego, Sunni, and used the first image from the photoshoot sets that were used throughout the rest of the campaign

When it came to the egos, Lisa wanted to make sure each character stood out in their own way, in their own world. We created different logos for each character, along with giving them personality with a questionnaire. With this, we hoped each one of LISA’s fans could gravitate towards one they related to best stylistically.

The cover and packaging concept for this album was centered around simplicity. How can we show all five characters belong to the same universe, when each of their styles are so drastically different? See below all of the Egos and their packaging. We represented each in their own book, as combining any did not feel right. Each book and full package was designed from scratch as well, with many different iterations and compromises until we got them as you see now.

the egos and their packaging

Lisa does a surprise unboxing with commentary as this is the first time she is seeing all versions as complete packages.

A fan goes album by album to show complete details of all five versions

Lisa loves each one of the egos equally as they represent different parts of her she wanted to show the world, but her she gravitated more towards Vixi, the “villain” and focus of the five. Vixi is featured front and center for the main album cover and a lot of her outfits for her performances featured styles Vixi would wear.

This one was the last designed, as the pressure to make it something Lisa would like was on! It was difficult to find a recurring theme as the photos are drastically different in mood and coloring. In both setups she looks a bit witchy, so i took that concept and represented the lyrics in a tarot card layout.

Roxi was the first ego we met, as she was represented in the release of Rockstar, we just did not know it at the time :) The inspiration for this design stems from the 80’s, with the use of animal print and gig posters. Her style for this look seemed like it stemmed from music video vixen and wanted to represent that appropriately.

Sunni is my personal favorite out of all the egos as it represents a sweet, natural side of LISA. This one seems like the closest to how she is as a normal person, rather than something more performative as she is mostly seen in the spotlight. The cat featured in the photos is actually Lisa’s real cat, Lily, which adds another personal touch to the album.

The collage theme was inspired by a wall in the photoshoot setup. Behind Lisa on the bed is a teen-like bedroom wall that has collaged images like lips and posters.

The images you see here of Speedi was actually taken at the same shoot as the original Rockstar images in early 2024. The inspiration for this look came from the song “Lifestyle” so there was already an ego developing.

The design is relatively simple in creative as the focus was her styling in this book. The coloring seemed obvious as I pulled from her wig and a green light. It is the only album package with more than two setups, and was the first one designed.

We wanted to make sure there was a character that was represented in each of Lisa’s releases for this album, so Kiki was first featured in the New Woman music video. The concept was reminiscent of videos from the early 2000s, so we decided to really play with the Y2K theme during the photoshoot for this character.

As we went all in for her styling, I decided to go all in for the design. You’ll see throughout that all images are featured in early Windows 2000s browser windows and the lyrics are set up like AIM away messages. There are also small features like “loading” images where half are pixelated like it use to be waiting for images to populate a site at that time. This was the most fun to design as I was inspired by my own experiences as well.
